   Hi, If you are getting on a plane and maintaining good control, then you are ready to move your footstraps to the outer positions. When they are inboard, you will tend to have a more upright stance. This is good for wave sailing or making tight turns. If you are wanting to have maximum speed and good control at high speeds, then the outer position is where you want the footstraps. This will put you out over the water more and give you more counteraction to the pull of the sail. Which all equates to more speed.
