van dvd player video is in black and white only

my husband connected a car dvd player in my van = with a roof monitor = the monitor plays the dvds in black and white no color. when he connected the car dvd player to the tv (to see if it was the dvdplayer or the wires) it worked fine = movies played on color.He took the same wires and connected to the van and it plays in black and white. help
