Question:

High Speed Tyres on BMW.

My husband had a flat tire V series on his BMW from driving over a s***w. Mechanic says it is against the law to plug a high speed tire, but BMW claims it is okay. We are in PA. Who is right, legally? (Husband would only use plugged tire as a spare.)

I do not have much idea about the laws in Pennsylvania. But plugs are a bad idea. They tend to leak, so they are considered temporary repairs. A combination repair (a plug to keep debris out of the hole, and a patch to seal the tire) is the only authorized repair. There are some specifications which are mentioned and written in the catalog or manual of BMW, you can check those to get an idea about the proper recommendation but here another point is that you can seek an advice from the tyre expert about your problem. I don’t think it will be illegal to plug in a high speed tyre but still you can get an opinion in that from the state departments and laws.
Here are some of the recommended tyres for BMW. Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position have a size which is best fit for the BMW like 255/40 R19. Similarly Bridgestone Potenza RE040 provides this with same specs Bridgestone Potenza RE040 . You can also fit it with Continental ContiSport Contact2 with this car. Continental Contisport. Dunlop SP Sport 9000 are highly recommended for BMWs. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS can also be used with the BMW. Pirerlli P6 Four Seasons are available in the size 255/40 R19 and Yokohama ADVAN Sport can also be used.
