paint still feels tacky on dresser painted over 6 years ago

   I have this same question and am having difficulty finding anyone with a reasonable answer for WHY it happens. Every piece of wooden furniture I have ever painted has stayed tacky, forever. I think the reason is latex/water based paint. It's just a theory, but I noticed that my oil based floor finish has never felt that way and I think my dining set is an oil finish as well-with no problems, so... until someone has a better answer, that is my conclusion.

   Try using a light thinner ontop of the paint to smooth it over.
