over the past several weeks, the machine often will lock onto the largest cup size and read "brewing

I have a Keurig Platinum. over the past several weeks, the machine often will lock onto the largest cup size and read "brewing." Occasionally I can get back to a smaller size but when it runs it, at the same time, flows hot water back into the reservoir. I'm sure that's not healthy?
