EP stands for Extended Play and it is a musical recording which tells us that there is more music than just a single, but it is short to be termed as full album or LP. There are records which are of specific types and they differ from the 78 rpm standard play records and LP records, they are also known as vinyl records, the term EP originally referred to such specific types of records. Now It is also applied to mid-length compact discs and music downloads also. EP’s differ from the shorter and traditional albums and falls in the category of extended plays. Such plays have long been popular with punk and indie bands. There are some standard variations in the EP’s defintion and listings, for example in United Kingdom, the Official chart company defines a boundary of separation of EP and the albums which are classified at 25 minutes of length.
LP are known as phonograph discuss which were used in the Vitaphone during the sound motion picture process. It was developed by Western Electric and also introduced in 1926. There was a four limit of a conventional 78 rpm disc and it was not acceptable. The requirement in this case is that the disc should be played at least 11 minutes and it should belong enough to accompany a thousand foot reel of 35 mm film at a rate of 24 frames per second.
