how hard is it to change a fan (to prevent overheating) on a 2002 vw jetta?

The mechanic wants $300 to change the fan. Is the difficult to get to or something? The part is only $68.

    Hi There, he timing belt and serpentine belt are different belts. The serp belt is your accessory drive belt that drives the alternator, A/C, and power steering. It's the one you see in the front of the motor. The timing belt drives the water pump and times the engine's camshaft to the crankshaft. It's under the timing cover on the front of the motor. The coolant was likely low due to when it overheated it blew the excessive pressure as well as the coolant out the pressure relief valve in the coolant filler cap. Thanks
