hotpoint gas range broiler

The broiler on our less than 1 year old Hotpoint gas oven has never worked properly. Large flames and noxious odors come out of the oven when we turn the broiler on. Any answers?

    Hi, Unit is a pilotless ignition therefore check the hot surface igniter. see if the igniter heats up. check for loose spade connectors where the wires plug into the socket. this unit has an infinite resistance but won't work if the resistance isn't there.
