Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am an artist working mainly with oils. I majored in art in college and would like to see about getting some pieces exhibited. I mainly am a realist, however as of late, I am fascinated by contemporary art and have started a large contemp. painting. I would like to see if you could help me in an art career-any help that you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your help and look forward to hearing from you. Tony

    Hello Tony,

If you mean by art career being an artist that makes a living from creating and selling your art work, then it takes a lot of luck to go along with your talent.

I own an art gallery and know there are very many fine artists whose works are terrific, but don't sell, because of market conditions, personal preferences, pricing, etc.

Not to discourage you, but there are no easy answers to your question about your art career.

If you mean contemporary art as in abstract, then it will be even more difficult. HOWEVER.........don't let this discourage you. If you like your work...then it is so much easier to market it.

Not knowing where you live, try to sell you work first in street fairs [you can see many listed in artcalendar.com] or go to your local library and get a copy of the magazine Art Calendar. Very best wishes to you in your pursuits.

p.s. Don't forget Van Gogh sold only two paintings in his lifetime and one was to his brother.
