freelander 2001 1.8 petrol oil leak?

i have a 2001 freelander 1.8S, my drive is now covered in small oil patches, on looking at engine there appears to be oil seaping around a nut? on the right hand side of the engine on the side as you stand at front of car looking at it... i am not sure what this is could it be the gaskket?can seal gasket needs changing? any help please???

It could be a few things, but is likely a valve cover gasket that needs to be squeezed a bit more. Tighten the valve cover a bit and see if that helps. And no, you don't have to change the gaskets every service. That is in no way true. Valve cover gaskets should be kept up and changed more frequently on many vehicles, though, more frequently than they are changed normally. Land Rovers tend to have more services than other cars because Land Rovers last longer than other cars, and it is important to keep a vehicle in good shape when it is expected to see hundreds of thousands of miles.

Hi, I assumed a leaky pipe is a leaky pipe no matter what engine it is. I hardly think it was because i wasnt 'bothered' to write the additional 3 words. I have a 1.8 petrol engine. Its been to the garage and he found no indication of head gasket going. Only other thing I have noticed is the engine holds back sometimes when in low revs and on a hill (like a misfiring). I had a similar experience with an Xr3i and it was a faulty cap on the spark plug
