ford ka engine warning light

i have beend advised that the warning light showing means the cat convertor needs to be replaced but there are lots of others reasons this fault light can show for.
so i need another garage 2nd opinion - The car is needed for my daughter to take her driving test next week. The driving examiner will not let you take the test in a car with any fault lights. If it is the cat it will be expensive, Can the garage turn off the fault light to allow us to take the test and then book it in for repair after,
