dry flaky mole? I have a mole larger than a pencil eraser that is dark brown in color when it

I have a mole larger than a pencil eraser that is dark brown in color when it grows and becomes dry and flaky. I can scratch the top off at this point and under that is a raised skin colored sometimes red or darker area but sometimes it will bleed. The top layer grows back very fast too and becomes scaly and dry again. I will have to find a camera to borrow to get a picture for you but is it normal for it to grow a layer of dark scaly skin over it?
