a friend of mine has been threatened with a subpoena for not having a conversation with a lawyer. The lawyer is representing someone in a slip and fall case. My friend did not see the slip and fall take place, but apparently knows the person who fell. The lawyer has requested a meeting with my friend several times, but has never gotten back to her when she's called him. Now she has a letter that states she did speak to them (she did not, she only returned their phone calls) and that if she doesn't speak to them further..they will issue a subpoena. Can they do that when she had NO involvement either as someone directly involved or as a witness to the event? Even my friend's knowledge of the alleged slip and fall victim is sketchy...as this person is the parent of a student from several years past.
