Who do you think is speaking in the poem and how do you know?
What are the figures of speech in the poem?

The poet made Columbus pause in line 37 so as to show that Columbus was contemplating. He was faced with a dilema whether or not he should claim the land or not.Columbus knew that History was about to repeat itself for his people were once under oppression and he knew that by claiming the land it was not only discovery but destruction of a race of people.
