Why does no-one talk to each other on the Underground?

I tried to start a conversation with someone this morning, but was knocked back and looked down upon like I was some sort of alien. Admittedly I'm new here, but is talking not allowed?

    It's because they all have colorectal cancer. It's not that they are being unfriendly. Rectal cancer tends to make one a bit crabby and hard to talk to.

    because everyone on the underground smells of B.O. and when they lift up their arms d**n it stinks so noone talks and noone gets offended
