    Saint Lorenzo Ruiz (c.1600 - September 29, 1637), was born in Binondo, Manila, Philippines. His Chinese dad educated him Chinese, and his Filipino mother educated him Tagalog. Both of his parents were Catholic. Lorenzo assisted at the convent of Binondo place of adoration as an altar boy. After a couple of years Lorenzo acquired the name of "escribano" (notary). He became a constituent of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. He was employed as a clerical assistant at the Binondo Church when he was incorrectly suspect of murdering a Spaniard in 1636. Prior to that, his life with his Filipino wife and three young children was one of calm, contentment, and Christ-centered. Lorenzo was incorrectly suspect of killing a Spaniard and searched asylum on board a boat with three Dominican clerics, Saint Antonio Gonzalez, Saint Guillermo Courtet, Saint Miguel de Aozaraza, a Japanese priest: Saint Vicente Shiwozuka de la Cruz and a layman entitled Saint Lazaro of Kyoto, a leper. The vessel set down at Okinawa and the assembly was apprehended on cornerstone of their Christian religion. They were tortured by the Japanese, but did not condemn their belief, and passed away as martyrs. Lorenzo Ruiz was beatified in Manila on February 18, 1981 by Pope John Paul II who canonized Lorenzo on October 18, 1987. Lorenzo's beatification was the first one out-of-doors the Vatican and is the first Filipino saint.
