Mona Lisa was created by Leonardo Da Vinci in the years 1503-1506 using oil paint on wood, and measures 77 x 53 cm. Leonardo Da Vinci was truly a man ahead of his time. He was a student of the human body, of biology, and the stars. He made hundreds of inventions.

Mona Lisa is one of famous 16th-century portrait painted in oil by the intellectual painter Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci during the Renaissance in Florence, Italy. The Government of France owned the work recently and is on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris under the title Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo. The historical painting is a half-length portrait and depicts a seated woman whose facial expression is usually described as mysterious. There is a great ambiguity in the facial expression of the character of being portrayed, the monumentality of the creation, and the excellent modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were unique characteristics that have contributed to the continuing admiration and study of the work.
The image is recognized globally, caricatured, and sought out by travelers to the Louvre that it is ranked as the most famous painting in the world. Leonardo Da Vinci started painting the Mona Lisa in 1503 or 1504 in Florence, Italy. After that he had lingered over it four years, left it unfinished. It is said that such behavior is normal in many paintings of Leonardo who, later in his life, regretted never having finished a single work.He is thought to have continued to work on Mona Lisa for three years after he migrated to France and to have finished it shortly before he died in 1519. In 1516 Leonardo bought the historical painting from Italy to France, when King François I invited the painter to work at the Clos Lucé near the king's castle in Amboise.
