    Look at the front and it is CW. Look at the back and it is CCW. You need to know the conventional point of view in order to determine the direction of rotation. For a piece of driven equipment like a fan or a pump the conventional view is looking at the end of the drive shaft which attaches to the motor or other power source. Some fans and some pumps are designed to rotate in one direction and some in the other. This includes the common propeller fan. Only the simple , usually straight-bladed propeller fan can operate effectively rotating in either direction.
