QUESTION: I will be moving to Sacramento in two weeks - I will be working in the downtown area and need to know the best place to look for apartments - around 700$ rent or so? I have a car but would like a place where I can commute to work by public transport. thanks!

ANSWER: Welcome to the area! You should be able to get a studio or a 1br downtown or in midtown for around $700. The best place to start would be craigslist since there aren't too many complex style places downtown. You can also look in that range in the Arden area or out in Folsom and take lightrail downtown.

Public transit is Sacramento is pretty weak. If you're not close to a lightrail stop, you'll want to be downtown or midtown. I live 12 miles from downtown but it would take me 55 minutes on the bus to get downtown and you can't go on the weekends at all.

Just a quick heads up- I-5 is under major construction the next six weeks. Check out www.fixi-5.com so you don't get stuck!
