Born 27 August 1908 Sir Donald George Bradman, AC also known as The Don, was an Australian cricketer, famous among fans as the greatest batsman of all time. Bradman's career Test batting average of 99.94 has been claimed to be statistically the greatest achievement in any major sport. In 1926, when the young Don Bradman first commenced his Grade and representative cricket in Sydney, he was affectionately known as "The Boy From Bowral" a title that remained with him throughout his life. For it was the small Australian country township of Bowral, in New South Wales, that the Bradman family moved to in early 1911. At the time Don Bradman was just 2 ½ years old. The Bradman’s purchased a weatherboard house at 52 Shepherd St. Bowral, just one street away from the Glebe sporting ground. This ground would later be renamed ‘Bradman Oval’ in 1947.
