    The BAFTA awards are held in Los Angeles , and are known as Britannica Awards, they started in 1989 and were held in October/November each year. These awards are not given to films or TV programmes; instead they are given to individuals. During the first ten years only one award was given at each event called Britannica award for Excellence in film but since 1999 the categories have increased and many more awards are now given in this category.
