    Normally British television award are held in April or May. They are also known as BAFTA. They have been awarded annually since 1954.The first ever awards consisted of six categories. Until 1958, they were awarded by the Guild of Television Producers and Directors.But when the Guild was merged with the British Film Academy. The organization was then named as Society of Film and Television Arts. From 1968 to 1997 both the awards were presented as the same but then later after 1998 they were split into two.
