A revenue stream, ie, at the VC level, they want to see sales, not necessarily profit, but sales of some level. A good team, ideally with folks who have had success in the past. A solid business plan, with a conservative growth plan to assure 50-100X return in 3-5 years. Dont try to BS them, most have seen so many bogus projections its not funny. The same goes if you say you have no competition. All that says is you didnt do your market research. A request for funding to the tune of $2 million on the low end, to perhaps as much as $100 million for biotech. Due diligence may cost the firm upwards of $500K, so they dont like to get involved for much under $2 million. However, the above is based upon my experience with VC's prior to the crash of the economy. Things likely are quite different now. Cold calling is probably not the best, but if its all you have, go for it. Ideally VC introductions are made by networking.
