The handshake is just an acknowledgement of the journey a brother has taken to be an elite part of the organization of brotherhood, In order to understand you will have to pledge like they say the Old fashion Way, you will have to earn it.     Let me jsut say that I want to give honor, respect & love to all the Fraternities & Sororities of the NPHC.  Alphi Is unique, Kappa Is Beautiful, Omega is a True Warrior, & Sigma is Glorious.  AKA is Beauty in it's Divinity, Delta is Promanent, Zeta is Van-Glorious & Gamma Rho is Awesomely Beautiful.  All are rightfully placed here for a reason to teach some form of dicipline and order to instruct & further direct individuals to perform and to aid in running a beautiful country known as America.  No need to question it's meaning but only to enjoy what each 1 yields.  I am a member of Iota Phi Theta, Masonry & Marines, so I do alot of community service whenever I'm free and not bound to duty or protecting this great country that our African (American) ancestors built.  Let us not tear it down.  All of our founders that initiated this process through the many different shields that we celebrate are some where in a different light sharing the knoweledge that seperates us through our shields, we will get there when we mature in the spirit, but for now let us keep steppin in the name of our Frats. & Sororities.  I say again...you are all Beautiful to me & you all have sculpted me & my Fraternity.

I would advise you to do your research and find out if you even wanna join KAPSI or any fraternity for that matter. There is a whole more that goes into joining a frat than a handshake. Think about it.

    wow. just.....wow. i am shocked after reading this thread. while i'm not apart of the greek community, after readin this i'm not sure if i even want to be. true, whoever asked this question went about it in the wrong way. if you want secret information like that then you have to pledge, you don't instantly become a brother just because you know the handshake. however, to the greeks, why would you bash him in such a way? instead of threatening his life and putting him down, you should inform him that the way he's goin about it is wrong, and then tell him the proper way. i thought the process was to better yourselves so you can help the community? you guys are too busy being immature and bashing each other. true, you earned your letters. you pledged, finished the process, and have earned those colors and letters. however, YOU MAKE THE LETTERS, THE LETTERS DON'T MAKE YOU. just because you went through doesn't mean you're instantly better an automatically entitled to something. you're supposed to wear those letters for life. that means for your entire life you represent that organization. and i'm 1000% sure that if your founders read this thread and saw the way you all are acting immature they would definitely disapprove. all i know is, if this is the way the black greeks act, then i don't blame the black people who join white frats. at least they're not as immature and they have their stuff together.

    To be honest this question and most of the replies are a bunch of ignorant non-sense that reminds me of an episode of the Boondocks. To the individual asking the question, as stated many times before, if you're not a member of Kappa Alpha Psi then it is none of your business. To all of the greek individuals or those portraying to be greek, GROW UP. I was under the impression that a process is supposed to make you a "better" person. From many of the replies below I would beg to differ. I am sick of NPHC greeks feeling as if they are entitled to things or above others just because they have three letters across their chest. Truth is, I don't care how many times you got your a*s beat, you still have to earn your place in this world just like everyone else. In my opinion, you instead of sitting behind the screen being an e-thug, go out into your community lend a hand to some service since that is in fact what you have pledged your life too because many of you are failing horribly in this area. If half the people that joined your organizations actually followed through with the service and ideals of bettering the black community, we as a people can come along way. Oh and why we are talking about life long commitments, lets discuss theses short lived commitments. I still cannot understand how people can sign something pledging their life to the ideals of the organization and then become inactive immediately after graduation. Then you criticize the IFC and PC organizations for only having college commitments when your own members are not following through with their commitments. Instead they are running back and forth to the schools still in undergraduate affairs. Again, GROW UP. And last but not least, lets talk about academics since someone decided to bring up the "high GPA's" of these NPHC organizations. Fact: NPHC sororities do have high GPA's for the most part and I applaud them. They are the same ones following through with service and honoring their lifetime commitments. But the fellas on the other hand are falling short. It is no secret that NPHC organizations are not wanted on many of the PWI campuses any longer because of the headaches they cause ion regards to headaches and low GPA's compared to IFC and PC organizations. No Kappa in this forum has any place to discuss GPA because we all know that them and the Sigmas run a race on almost every campus for having the lowest organizational GPA and becoming inactive. I say this for the wealth of your organization and the betterment of you all, please remember that you went to college to get a degree, not to pledge your organizations. I love the culture you all bring to campuses and believe that these organizations can be a great asset to the African American culture, given that proper members are brought in to follow through with the ideals of these organizations and not letter chasers. Stop bringing people in that you know cannot contribute to the org, even if it is your friend. Set a standard and stop bringing people in that barely meet the GPA requirement. And thank you Kappa for finally raising your minimum required GPA from a 2.0 to a 2.5 because we all know that you guys brought in a lot of 2.0's. It's a step in the right direction.     I want to pretty much say exactly what [almost] everyone else was saying: if you want to know, pledge at your college or university. If theres no chapter on your campus, contact the Kappa Alpha Psi headquarters in writing expressing. With that being said, I want to first state that I'm non-greek, however, my best friends are: One's and Alpha and the other is a Kappa. I never fully understood the 'greek thing', but always found it interesting. Being a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, or VCU in Richmond, VA, I've been asked to join many of the greek organizations (from current members) while attending, but due to my lack of knowledge I never went through with it. I must say, for the longest I had the up-most respect for the Iota Phi Theta organization, but due to so many negative issues I've experienced from members of that organization I lost all positive views! But I must say, I've never in my life experienced anything negative from a single member of Kappa Alpha Psi frat member--not even at social parties off campus. I'm stating that because I can see how a person want to 'claim' Kappa Alpha Psi organization w/o going through with the procedure. Its not right, nor is it fair to do so. Its deceit! But if I were a Kappa, or Nupe, I would talk with that individual and encourage him to study the greek organization first, then proceed on with crossing--while maintaining confidentiality. To read every written comment, my now positive views hasn't turned negative about this organization, but I was reminded of that particular Iota I came into contact with. I only had questions--questions that aren't considered private, or confidential; but thats a different topic for a another day. To conclude, men interested: know what to ask, and have a basic understanding. To answer the original question: Our handshake is one of brotherhood. that is what we are. There are many out like us but we Are us. We don't disrespect other organizations for being them and doing what they do. We appreciate them for doing what they do. My founders all of them didn't wish to be alphas as some of the rumors and stories go. They were part of a fraternity know as Alpha Omega but it was incorporated and was disbanned at Indiana University before it could really be realized. Diggs and a few other founders, 3 to be exact, still wanted to create a college fraternity to which men of noble being stron in mind and Humble in personality who wanted to achieve could come together in brotherhood in a area the wasn't conducive to black men achieving anything. Please check yourself NUPES and remember where you came from. All other frats do the same!!!! Sometimes I think we have become to big for oursleves. Stay humble. And please stop acting like NIGGAS!
