   i have ibs i can have a bm only if i take stool softeners ,fibre or water otherwise no bowel movements.... i spent three months without bowel movements, but went to various tests including invasive and non invasive tests, gynecological and gastreontoliogical sorry i don[t know how to spell, i had been to hospital, and was diagnosed ibs after a colonoscopy/and a transvaginal ultrasound that required one hour of holding my pee.... painful!!! now i still don't poo but at least i have a bm every morning and another after my first meal, sometimes pencil like when ibs is severe...abdominal disconfort varies according to the gasses in my intestines....ibs pain is bad when it has a flare. lactulose made it easy for me though, and i can take it as long as ibs accompanies..ibs cannot kill you, so i don't see why not pooing can kill you because ibs c accompanies that symptom (not poing)...
