Question:

What can and can't bailiffs do? Can they take stuff from my house even if it is not my debt?

My son owed parking fines and the bailiffs attended my property and demanded that I give them property to the value of £360. I told them the only property of my son's was bags of clothing but they insisted that unless I had receipts to prove otherwise, they could take anything they wanted. They then said if I didn't pay up, they would ring the police and tell them I was being obstructive so that I could be arrested for that offence. In fear and in an effort to get rid of him, I paid £360 which he wrote (after my signature) was a 'voluntary payment from mother.' It was not voluntary, I was terrified.
