    Understanding earthquake hazards involves many types of studies: monitoring earthquakes, monitoring crustal deformation; mapping the marine environment for evidence of offshore earthquake activity; studying wave propagation; mapping earth structure; understanding local geological conditions; and looking for geological evidence of prehistoric earthquakes. Many different types of studies are conducted by scientists at the Pacific Geo science Centre of the Geological Survey of Canada to better improve our understanding of earthquake hazards in western Canada.
