I have a question regarding a species of pigeon known often as fancy pigeon. I have a pair of these fancy pigeons or so called fantails. I have waiting for them to breed but they do not seem to be doing so. I would like to have some information about their breeding pattern, if it is different from ordinary pigeons.

The Fantail is a popular breed of fancy pigeon. It is characterized by a fan-shaped tail composed of 30 to 40 feathers at the most. In some cases most members of the pigeon family usually have 12 to 14 feathers in total. The breed is thought to be originated in India, China or Spain, yet nothing is confirmed. There are several varieties and subvarieties, such as the English Fantail, the Indian Fantail, and the Thai Fantail. Charles Darwin used it as one of the examples in the first chapter of his book named On the Origin of Species. When it comes to breeding, all domestic pigeons have the same behavior. The male begins to coo and dance around the female. At one point they mate. Then the male begins to look for a nesting area. Once the birds begin to build the nest, the male will often drive the hen starting from about five days into the cycle. This most unusual breed of pigeon has been in existence for hundreds of years. Over the years the form has been changed and the tail has become larger. These pigeons are kept as an decorative feature or exhibition and they become very tame and breed quite readily.
