State Migration Plans (or SMPs) play a critical part in the Australian General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, as they have been developed by State/Territory governments to essentially determine which applicants will be eligible for state sponsored visas on the basis of their occupation. The Government of Western Australia's State Migration Plan is currently with the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. The Western Australian State Migration Plan targets specific skills that is needed in the state, and allows the WA Government to sponsor migrants with these skills for permanent immigration. The Western Australian State Migration Plan focuses on skilled occupations that are needed in the state. The Plan will introduce the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupations List.
