   I live in San Antonio Tx. If I do not close pool, how long should I run the Pump? Is it necessary to put a cover on after I winterize it? Thank you any help you can give.

   Here is a list of things to do before closing your pool for the Winter. By properly closing your pool for the winter, you spend less time and money opening your pool in the spring. You will eliminate additional electrical costs, and harmful chemicals. By cleaning and avoiding possible freeze damage to equipment and plumbing, your pool is safe until springtime. Close your pool properly in the fall and spring start up will be a snap.
   First you have to test the water for pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and chlorine.
   You can also adjust the level of water in order to protect it from the corrosion or scale buildup which might result in due to the shut down of the pool in the winter.
   There is a water test kit that is available which tests the PH 7.2 to 7.6 Alkalinity and also the calcium hardness and the level of chlorine in it. You also have to make sure that your pool remains clean before the winter starts and you brush and vacuum sides and bottom and use a clarifier to get the water crystal clear. Another thing that you can do is to vacuum the water pool but for that you have to make sure that the water level is at the low level.
   Other things you can do is to clean the filter, skimmer and pump basket. Remove all unused chlorine product. Cartridge filter elements, you can also use air pillows to inflate with a leaf blower or shop. Place winter cover before the winter starts.
