I went on a cruise a few weeks ago on Carnival Cruise Lines to the Bahamas, the first day I thought texting was free because my phone still said "Verizon Wireless" as we were still on the coast. I know I will be charged for those text messages. But, we had a family emergency the last night we were on the ship and I spoke to family members for a total of 30 minutes ($75 all together i'm guessing, which isn't horrible compared to others i've heard). While talking I stood outside on the deck and saw that we were by a city considering we hadn't seen land in maybe two days? I was wondering if I will get charged the 2.50 a minute if we were so close to a city, or if it was still going off of the ships tower? Thank you!
