   The mission of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan is to promote bilateral ties between the United States and Pakistan and to foster economic and commercial relations. Embassy activities focus on strengthening democratic institutions, promoting nonproliferation and regional stability, fighting international terrorism, combating narcotics production and trafficking and fostering expanded trade and investment. The Office of Public Affairs of U.S. Embassy Islamabad offers a wealth of information on all facets of life in the U.S., and also provides a forum for U.S.-Pakistani cultural exchange. The Information Resource Center (IRC) has extensive information on a variety of topics, including current and historical events and educational opportunities in the United States. The ambassador of United states in Pakistan is Cameron Munter. He was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan on October 6, 2010. Prior to his nomination, Ambassador Munter completed his tour of duty at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
