I read it about five years back from a used book store... the plot was based on a new bride who marries a scarred man. He doesn't feel that he is good enough and he often prays in the chapel at his castle... he also speaks some latin- one of the passages is "hear the cries I utter" it's mentioned twice in the novel I think once in latin and then once again in translation. Help!
