Well...first you take five and add it to three. You take the answer, 8, and subtract it from the time you have to know it. 7 - 8= -1. THEN you add the number of minutes in a class period (45) and you get 44. To that, you subtract the number of quarts in a gallon (4) to get 40. You then divide this answer by the first number in your equation (5) to get your final answer and you'll get 8. Ergo...5 + 3 = 8.
