Talk Talk-Landline problem!?

used my internet and phone on friday evening and everything appeared to be working as normal-saturday morning i went to use my landline and the line was dead-no dial tone just silence

phoned talktalk to ask if there was fault with the area lines however talktalk advised me that they had received no other complaints.

they told me they would report the fault and if they sent round an engineer and it was a problem with my electrics i would be charged 140 quid!

have tried different phones into the two phone line sockets in my property but still no dial tone. have tried the tester socket also but that is not working either. am pretty sure that nothing is wrong with my electrics....

Any idea what could be the problem? anyone else with talktalk had this issue?

thanks in advance for your replies!!!

if you have checked your phone in the test socket, and still nothing, call them back, tell them. don't worry as everything is pointing to an external problem you will not have to pay. just because talk talk have had no other complaints in your area, just means either no one has reported one or they have no other customers close by. it will be a bt openreach engineer that comes out as they look after the external network.

Hello.I'm a TalkTalk user and have an idea which solves your problem. You have been ill-advised as to what should actually be happening. I suggest you ring their Customer Care number again and demand to be put through to a Supervisor. TalkTalk have a duty to report your complaint British Telecom who own and run the phone lines into and out of your home.It is the responsibility of BT to fix your line NOT TalkTalk.

There is nothing wrong with your electrics. It is telephone line problem that you cannot sort out yourself.Whatever idiot you spoke to at TalkTalk hadn't a clue what they're talking about. Go back to TalkTalk, speak to a Duty Supervisor, explain the problem again (sadly), tell them its nothing to do with the electrics and can they get onto BT to get the line fixed. It really is that simple.

All will be resolved to your satisfaction if you follow my instructions.

All the best,

Alan L.

we had similar problem with that company. The best thing is to get well away from talktalk. They can't understand what you are saying, I found them to be complete con artists.

Talk Talk are the devils in disguise! They just mess you about. They go on about how they haven't had any complaints before but you've just complained so they have now! It's so annoying. We had problems all last year (our first year with them) and now they seem ok. Just keep moaning at them - thats what I did. Don't get one of their technicians in cos thats a ripoff - try someone else who is cheaper if it persists. Just keep complaining and consider changing your provider.

You already have a broadband connection so you could easily use Vonage to make cheap calls via the internet, but using your normal phone. If you want any help you can find details of the service we offer at www.vonage.co.uk.
