Hello
You are partly right. The script was written in the mid 1970s and McQueen was offered huge money to star in the film. It came at a time in his career when he was not doing many movies. Ryan O Neal they bought the project and were set to star in the movie with Diana Ross. But that project fell through.
The movie Bodyguard was released in the year 1992 and was directed by Mick Jackson. It was a best American romantic-thriller film which starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in the main stream. Kevin Costner stars as a former Secret Service Agent who just turned as a bodyguard and was hired by the lady (Houston) to protect her. Houston was a music star, and was threatened from an unknown stalker. The script was written by Lawrence Kasdan in 1970s. Basically it was written for for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross.
Overall, the movie was a big hit itself, as it was screened for thirteen weeks in U.S. similarly, its gross total was more than enough, as expected before its release.
An extra note...Kevin Costner has stated that he based his character in the movie on Steve McQueen ala Bullit. All the wat down to the goofy haircut Costner dons in the flick. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions please let me know.
Cheers!
