I have my questions regarding the evergreen evergreen shrub of the family Agavaceae, and of the genus Yucca. Besides Spaninsh Dagger the other names of this plant are Moundlily Yucca, Soft-tipped Yucca, Spanish Bayonet or Sea Islands Yucca. Our spanish dagger has already bloomed so do we cut off the stem or does it fall off and will it re-blossom?

The best thing to do is to leave the dead flower stalk in place until it dries out completely. After that it should be removed. It is always good to have a new flower stalk each year or so. Unlike Agave's which die after flowering, the Yuccas as the one mentioned is a Yucca Gloriosa, this will flower each year. The plant is known to flourish as a domestic plant and is sold internationally. In a domestic environment, the plant has average water requirements, and little maintenance is needed other than the removal of dead leaves when the shrub nears its ultimate height. The plant is very hardy, no leaf damage even if the temperature falls as low as −20 degree Celsius or −5 ° F and also it is very strong and can handle a lot of snow and prolonged freeze. The Spanish Dagger has been known to cause skin irritation and even allergic reactions upon contact. The leaf points are even sharp enough to break the skin. In order to cut or remove this plant from a certain area, one has to be very careful.
