I was taking care of a patient of mine at her house when I started to strip her bed and i saw this small black bug with a hard shell and a brown stripe across the shell crawling across her bottom sheet. Then when I pulled the bottom sheet off I found a dead one. Just curious if you could help me figure out what it is and if her and her family need to be worried.

The description given by you shows that its a "larder beetle," Dermestes lardarius (family Dermestidae). These beetles feed as larvae in dried animal matter (pet food, taxidermy mounts, cured meats, furs and animal hides, dry carcasses).
