Sigma 50-500mm Lens will not select AF

I have a Sony A700 I am using te Sigma 50-500mm Lens. All was well and then the camera switched to MF mode even though the AF rin was selected o the lens. I cannot get the camera to select AF with this lensmounted. AF works well with all my other lenses
