Serving is the most significant shot in tennis. It groups the pitch for the issue and dictates court position. A good server has a direct benefit over her adversary from the start. The server starts behind the baseline, on the right edge of the center line. She proceeds to the left edge of the center line for the second issue and alternates each point. The server should strike the ball over the snare in the air, and the ball should land in the service carton on the converse edge of the center line on the opposite edge of the net. The server gets two possibilities to put the serving in play or she misplaces the point. If the ball strikes the snare but countries on the opposite edge in the correct service carton, it is called a let and the server is not ascribed with a chance. The server tosses the ball and strikes it with the racket before the ball bounces. Most players strike the serving as an overhead shot because of the power such a shot develops, but players can strike an underhand or sidearm serve. A server is under no responsibility to serving a ball if he does not like the toss. He can apprehend it in the air or on a rebound and trial afresh without penalty.
