By the year 2007, the Lexus LS ranked second globally in the flagship sales, which is next to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class' 85,500 units, and with 71,760 Lexus LS sedans sold worldwide, and more than half of them coming from outside the U.S. market.] In the year 2008, U.S. sales fell almost 42% in the later 2000 recession, mirroring the overall decline of luxury car market. The Lexus LS has not sold in Europe as well , where Lexus suffers brand recognition, image, and a less developed dealership network. Lexus LS has ranked second in the sales to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and also ahead of rivals from BMW, Audi, and Jaguar in markets outside Europe, such as South Africa.
