After being dumped out of another major, it is clear that Dinara Safina is one of the poorest world number ones in history.

    Safina's not the only player to reach number one without a Grand Slam victory. Jelena Jankovic finished 2008 as the world's top ranked player but since she dropped out of the No. 1 spot has managed to avoid the heat that Safina has faced in 2009. She may not be the best player on the tour when judged by Grand Slam performances, but she is one of the most consistent.

    Safina deserves the number one spot due to consistent performances in tournaments around the world. She is still young, and will take time get used to the slams.
