Royal Oporto 1985

Nearly 20 years ago I bought a few cases of Royal Oporto 1985 Vintage Port which I hoped would be nice in my old age, but I fear I made a mistake and that perhaps this particular vintage is not going to get any better with time? Do you think that I should I drink it now in middle age, or is it worth waiting a little longer? From what I can gather in UK price terms it seems to be almost worthless now. For this reason, I would like to enjoy it at its best.

As far as the Royal Oporto 1985 is concerned, it may not be good to have it and especially if it has been kept for a longer period. Besides, as they have an unfortunate reputation for quality that is reflected in their price, so consuming them after 20 years may probably involve a lot of risk. It may cause certain stomach disorders, liver damaging or even heart failures. It is better just to keep some or all of these and enjoy them for what they are over the next year or so. Sell the lot at an auctioneer who might be able to promote them on the overall strength of the 1985 Port vintage and so release some funds for reinvestment in one of the better producers of it such as Graham, Niepoort, Warre or Fonseca. Avon is the one who get good prices for wines that fall below the lot value limits that the big houses set.
