Patrology is the branch of theology that studies the teachings of the early church fathers. This study doesn't focus on his personal life. It pays attention on his works, writings and doctrines passed in relation to morality, faith and Church discipline. Saints who wish to excel in the field of great learning pay great attention to the teachings of father of church. As the Church approves of two source of revelation - “Scripture AND Tradition”, - while the fathers of the Church, are considered as the best custodians of both, since they lived in complete alignment with the time of the Apostles who were the foundation stones, the pillars of Christian Faith. Patrology is the teaching about the Fathers which is not limited only to the Holy Fathers. Patrology as a science arose in recent times. Its subject is the vital life of a church. Patrology includes in itself three main elements: the lives of the Fathers, their works, and their theology but now these two understandings are practically mutually interchangeable. It was considered that the teachings of fathers are studied in patristic. Actually patrology is wider term than Patristic but there is not much difference in them. You can also define patrology as a collection of the writings of early church fathers. Now mostly used name about the study of fathers comes under patrology.
