Painting a Sunfish

The deck and hull are in very good shape.Is one quart of Petti's brighside enough to paint the deck and hull? do I need a primer?

    Hi, Try the sailfish sail, if you like the boat you may want to buy a new sunfish sail. This website has small boat sails in the chandlery, a sunfish sail doesn't cost much. As for paint, the original factory finish is Gelcoat paint. Gelcoat is basically fiberglass resin wih color pigment. For the best finish, buy a can of white gelcoat, mix with hardener in small batches because once added it needs to be applied in a just a few minutes, then it hardens. Apply it with a small 4" trim roller, a thin foam roller with a long handle. Repaired areas will need 2-3 coats. Clean up with Acetone, which may also be used as a thinner for spraying. You can purchase a Pre-Val spray bottle at most marine centers if you prefer to spray it on. Thin with Acetone 50/50 mix.
