PIXMA MP520 scanner won't scan

Is there a way I can scan even though my printer has an empty ink cartridge???
This is driving me crazy that I can't scan just because a cartridge is empty!!!

    Hold the reset/stop button for about 5 seconds - that should stop the printer maintenance and allow you to scan as normal. Hope this helps.
