Question:

Onan 5.5 will not start

I have an Onan 5.5 Generator that was working fine and then quit. Tried to start it but all i get is three loud cliks/taps in succession. Does not feel like it turns over, just clicks. Any ideas?

    I had an Onan 4000 do the same thing. A friend of mine explained to me that the piston could have stopped on dead top center and the starter was not strong enough to turn it over. He reached in and turned the fan blade over to move the piston manually and the generator cranked right up. I've read many many forums on this problem and most pointed to a starter or solenoid problem. You might have to place a socket on the bolt to turn yours over. Good Luck.
