ODI may prove Strauss weakness

England captain Andrew Strauss' performances with the bat in the test arena since becoming captain are exceptional, clearly showing the Middlesex opener enjoys the pressure. Yet with an ODI average of just over 30, Strauss only made 12 at The Oval and gave away his Lord's wicket when well placed; surely Strauss' more conservative batting approach is not suited to the ODI game?

This is a tough situation for the selectors. Andrew Strauss' pragmatic batting is clearly more suited to test situations, yet, as captain, Strauss has done very well and previous experiments of having different test and ODI captains have not succeeded. You have to keep with Strauss for the time being given he is the only top-order batsman who currently looks like getting runs.
