As a favour to a friend I agreed to take her dog on a temporary basis while she finds a new place to live. I am a cat person, but confident with dogs and this one is a very well behaved lad. I got him home and isolated him in the living room so that all the cats had free run to the hall stairs and bedrooms so each had their own space, but they could smeel each other. I left the room and the dog followed me quickly and before I had a chance he was sniffing a very startled kitty who batted him on the nose hissed and ran upstairs, he followed - not aggressively, but in a normal dog manner and not that fast. I grabbed him just as three other cats waiting at the top fluffed hissed and backed off including the now missing kit.
My cat has now gone missing for over 24 hours - she has in 8 months never gone further than 2 gardens away, spent most of her life on my bed and always came when called. Now I am getting no response and am very worried. All other cats went out, but returned when hungry (including the one that hit him of the nose and was chased). Little one that has disappeared was nursed back from cat flu by me and is partially blind so I'm really scared for her.
Has anyone else had experience of cats running away when introducing a dog and then returning, or do I just have to except that me doing a good turn for a friend may have resulted in me losing one of my own little kits? :(
