My singer 5050 sewing machine is only sewing backwards now

   I had that problem and it was the spring (inside the case) for the reverse lever. All you have to do is take off the machine cover, usually six or eight screws and check the spring, either replace it or tighten it up. I tightened mine because it was crazy price for shipping, and the part was $1.15 but shipping was $6.00. So, it was principle.
